it says right here in my Communications textbook that the average grown-up (the book's word, not mine) watches around THIRTY HOURS OF TV A WEEK?!?!?!?!?
lets see, what do i watch?
on Sun, Desperate Housewives (my dirty dirty secret shame)
on Mon, Heroes and Studio 60
on Tues, Veronica Mars
on Thur, Grey's Anatomy
since i have TiVo, it records various other things that i MIGHT watch, eventually. (really eventually. i still have three episodes of Dark Angel from SEPTEMBER). the main two here are Carlos Mencia and Xena. oh, it MIGHT record other things - House, Boston Legal, 2 and a half men, the 4400, Eureka. but in the case of the last two, only when NEW episodes are out (this summer) which is when the other shows i watch are all in re-runs, and the rest are random, if something else isn't on that night it records and i MIGHT watch it. generally not. so lets be OVERLY generous and say i watch 10 hours of TV a week.
i think that i am watching too much at 10 hours (although 6 doesn't bother me, which i feel is a bit more accurate)...
HOW THE HELL DO PEOPLE FIND TIME TO WATCH 30 HOURS OF TV A WEEK?!?!?!?!
oh. right. i am one of the few who would rather read. REALLY rather read. which is why i have a TiVo, now that i think of it.

Date: 2007-02-19 05:56 am (UTC)I watch lost. Another hour every two weeks, probably, so let's call that a total of one.
Battlestar gallactica and the Dresden files (which I usually watch) will make up another hour. I'll put as much as 2 hours a week into the food network (and assorted programming inclusing good eats, easy entertaining, iron chef, etc).
umm . . . i'm running out of stuff.
I usually end up watching ER while sarah watches ER.
At worst, that's 5 or so.
this is how you get 30 hours...
Date: 2007-02-19 06:34 am (UTC)get home at 6ish and turn on the tv. LEAVE IT ON until you go to bed around 10. that's 4 hours a day x 5 days a week = 20 hours....
now, get up on saturday and turn the tv on and LEAVE IT ON until you go to bed... and repeat on sunday...
this works out to about 40 or more hours a week of tv viewing, and definitely at least 30 hours of actual watching
i don't understand how they do it. but then again, there *might* be 20 books in that house...
as opposed to my several bookshelves full... and still out of room...
and yes, TiVo - i still have stuff from sept too

Date: 2007-02-19 06:51 am (UTC)The background noise shows are more like usual channels: History, Discovery, TLC and Court TV.
Lets see, shows that I actually do watch...
Sesame Street, Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and Between the Lions - 2 hours) 5 days a week) - of course while I'm "watching" those I'm also playing with Stazia
7 am Ten TV news followed by the Morning Show - 2 hours (5 days a week) - the 7am news is around getting Athena ready for school.
That comes out to about 20 hours a week. I don't really have any regular evening shows I watch. Sometimes I'll catch CSI, but usually I forget its Thursday and am online talking to Jae or reading or writing.

Date: 2007-02-20 11:16 pm (UTC)History channel...maybe 3-4 hours all week. And that's mostly my bro's thing; I'm usually just on the other couch, listening to music, drawing, writing, or studying.
Rasslin'. Yeah, I'm an NWA/TNA fan. Hell with WWE That's two hours per week.
The occasional burst of Aqua Teen, Futurama, or Family Guy, maybe another four hours total.
And MXC - the ONLY show I watch religiously. That's 30 minutes a week, except when Spike runs the marathon. :D
The rest of the time, I'm either (in order of frequency, from most to least) on the computer, studying, writing, listening to music, drawing/painting/whatever, or on the PS2. Or at work.
But then, the average American family is a clutch of sloths.
