Statement of the week

i just posted this in someone else's LJ (jaeded, to be exact) but felt it bore a more widely disemenated viewing.

and a cookie to whoever figures out that last line first.

I may joke about leaving. going to montreal or something.

but i posted in another persons journal (in response to being told i was unAmerican because i can't support Bush) that i am a patriot...

which generally leaves me feeling out of place around my friends (and you know my friends ;)

for the past three years, i have been ashamed of my president and ashamed of my patriotism.

this is why i am a political science major. this country is NOT a democracy, its a republic, and while that may not seem to be a bad thing, the fact that most people feel it is a democracy IS. because there are still states where the electoral college doesn't have to vote with the masses. there are places (IN OHIO!!!) where people were challenged and turned away at the polls.

i can't leave.

but i really hate living someplace where everyone feels that they have the right to tell other people how to live. because that is what this is. One group dislikes another group, and tries to lessen said other group.

you'd think after the civil rights movement, the people of the country would have figured it out.

i'm waiting to be thrown in jail for my political beliefs, shot for my boyfriend, stoned for being divorced, or burned at the stake because i have a non-monotheistic religion.

but...
