i have a love-hate relationship with Laurell K Hamilton

on the one hand, i am not a person who likes to observe sex, in any way. if there is sex, i want it to be me having it. so, necessarily much of what Ms. Hamilton writes makes me... uncomfortable? not really what i am driving for. its not bored either. lets call it "anxious to get back to the plot". although the plot often is the sex.

but on the other hand, really, its okay, because Hamilton draws me into the world(s) like very few non-sci-fi writers do. (and it isn't sci-fi, its fantasy, and YES Virginia there is a difference)

but, knowing the issues-with-reading-about-sex-i-am-not-having, i am soooooo happy i saw this on her blog
" [for those who] read the Anita series, here are hints about THE HARLEQUIN. First, Edward is in the book in a major way. Second, so is Olaf. Yeah, serial killer guy is back."

squeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i ADORE the character Edward. yes, i like my men psycho, what can i say? in real life, i would so run the fuck away from him screaming my head off... and that is why he is so great to read about. and Olaf has been this thread dangling for... 5 books now? somthing like that.

the last book was something like 2/3 sex. well written sex, i grant. sex with a purpose, i also grant. but if Edward is there, i can at least think that i know that there is ONE person she won;t be having sex with around *G*

and she also seems to be stepping up the production of the books... this one is june, the next Merry book Dec07... (which means that YAY Liz and Vic day can become a tradition!!!)
it just seems to be a good time for all of my fav writers. well, the living ones - but even Heinlein has a new book out (w/ spider robinson, also a fav)
in other words... Ibby will be spending all of her disposable income on books. and more books. and hey, my birthday is in just under a month and guess what i want?

yeah...B&N giftcards baby!

(ps - i ALWAYS want barns and noble gift cards, ya know.)

I used to really like the Blake series, but the sex has gotten to be just over the top silly and gratuitous to me. It's like the writer really, really, really wishes she could have a harem of men and acknowledge that she wants to have sex as much as possible but can't so it comes out in her writing to the nth degree.

I prefer the Merry series, there is is sex but it flows more with the story and adds to plot instead of getting in it's way like the Blake series does.

Well you know that I treat Changeling like kryptonite, but I still like Merry.

I agree with you, Anita has totally left the zombie thing and is just fucking all the time. I really liked the zombie/(preternatural)CSI thing she had going. She can't even go a day without taking at least one guy down, usually in a violent fashion. I don't have anything against violent sex, but one can have toooooooooooo much of a good thing.
